Known for
Crescent Lake Park, historic Huggins-Stengel Field

Crescent Lake is a historic neighborhood just north of downtown St. Petersburg, built around Crescent Lake Park — a large green park with a lake, a walking loop and the historic Huggins-Stengel Field, where major-league teams once held spring training. With 1920s homes on tree-lined streets and downtown a short drive or bike ride away, it offers character and convenience — and, importantly after 2024, much of it sits on higher ground than the city’s waterfront neighborhoods.

Lifestyle

The park is the neighborhood’s living room: morning walks and runs around the lake, dog walkers, birdwatchers and weekend picnics. Downtown’s restaurants and the waterfront are about five minutes away by car, and the shops and cafés of the Uptown area and Central Avenue are close by. It feels residential and calm while still being part of the city.

Homes you will find

  • Craftsman bungalows and Mediterranean Revival homes from the 1920s, many lovingly restored.
  • Homes facing the park and lake, which are the most sought after.
  • Updated and new homes on the surrounding streets, mixed with a few small multi-unit properties.

Who it is best for

  • Buyers who want historic character close to downtown, at a lower price point than Old Northeast or the waterfront.
  • Buyers who want to reduce flood exposure while staying central.
  • People who love parks, walking and an established neighborhood feel.

What to know before you buy

  • “Higher ground” still needs checking. Many streets here are outside the high-risk flood zones, but always verify the zone and elevation for the specific address — see our flood zone and insurance guide.
  • Older homes, older systems. Budget for roof, electrical and plumbing updates, and expect insurers to ask for 4-point and wind-mitigation inspections.
  • Value in renovation. Homes that need updating can offer real upside in a central location — get contractor estimates before you commit.
