Venetian Isles is a waterfront neighborhood in northeast St. Petersburg built on a series of finger islands, so most homes sit directly on deep-water canals with quick access to Tampa Bay. It is a favorite of boaters: many residents keep their boat at the dock behind the house and can be out on open water in minutes.
Lifestyle
Life here is about the water — boating, fishing, paddleboarding along the canals and watching dolphins and manatees from the backyard. The streets are quiet and residential, with a strong neighborhood community. Downtown St. Pete is roughly a 15-minute drive, and shopping, restaurants and the Gandy Bridge to Tampa are close by.
Homes you will find
- Waterfront ranch homes from the 1960s–70s, many updated, on canal lots with docks and boat lifts.
- Newer elevated homes built to current flood standards, often replacing original houses.
- Homes with open-bay views on the outer streets, which typically command the highest prices.
Who it is best for
- Boaters who want direct water access without a marina.
- Buyers who want a waterfront single-family home at a lower price point than the island estates closer to downtown.
- Buyers interested in renovating or rebuilding on a waterfront lot.
What to know before you buy
- Flood and storm surge risk. Like other low-lying waterfront areas of northeast St. Pete, Venetian Isles flooded during Hurricane Helene in 2024. Elevation, flood history and any substantial-damage determination should be at the top of your checklist — see our flood zone and insurance guide.
- Check the water, not just the house. Canal depth, bridge clearance on the route to the bay, and the condition of the seawall and dock all affect how usable — and valuable — the waterfront is.
- Insurance quotes first. Get wind and flood quotes before you make an offer.
